Discovering: Alteya Organics' Rose Otto Nourishing Face Serum Bio Damascena and Instant Detox Face Mask Rose Jasminium

by Mariana, October 23, 2017

I’ve tried enough rose-based products and brands to know when I’ve found a true, star-quality, rose-infused skincare line– which is the case with Alteya OrganicsAfter using a few of Alteya's skincare products consistently over the last three months, I can whole-heartedly say that I’m in love! In case you are not familiar with this independent beauty brand, here's some background.

Family-owned, Alteya Organics is a leading organic rose grower and distiller in the heart of the Bulgarian Rose Valley, employing centuries-old techniques in the harvesting of roses, lavender and chamomile, and in creating luxury organic skincare based on therapeutic-grade rose oil, in combination with other powerful oils and plant extracts. USDA or NATRUE certified organic, Alteya’s products are cruelty-free, clean and earth-friendly* and are sold internationally though natural beauty stores and online though the company’s website

The ingredients’ quality, the effective formulations, as well as the total sensory experience of the products all contribute to why I fell in love with them. I also find Alteya's ability to quality-control key ingredients from harvesting, through formulation, to production a key success factor and differentiator. While I've been using a few of Alteya's products (as seen here and here), this post is focused on two in particular, that I feel are especially appropriate when the skin needs extra nourishment and love – the Rose Otto Nourishing Face Serum Bio Damascena and the Instant Detox Face Mask Rose Jasminium.**

The Rose Otto Nourishing Face Serum Bio Damascena simply ‘stole my heart’ from the very first drop. The reason? In short - it delivers on all key aspects that I look for in a face skincare product for my sensitive / combination skin:

  • It is ingredient-conscious, plant-powered and rose-infused!
  • It is working, e.g. effective in addition to being safe
  • It offers a complete sensory experience, elevating my beauty routine to a mini ritual that I look forward to daily

This is a serum / face oil, formulated with a potent blend of organic plant and essential oils to improve skin’s resistance to environmental factors and help fight signs of aging. Take a look at the list of ingredients to get an idea of the beautiful bouquet of organic flower oils and plant extracts packed in this small bottle:

Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil*, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil*, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil*, Macadamia Integrifolia (Macadamia) Seed Oil*, Prinus Armeniaca (Apricot) Kerner Oil*, Calendula Officinalis (Calendula) Flower Extract*, Lecithin*, Borgo Officinalis (Borage) Seed Oil*, Rosa Damascena (Rose) Flower Oil*, Argania Spinsosa (Argan) Oil*, Pentaclethra Macroloba Seed Oil*, Lavandula Augustifolia (Lavender) Oil*, Triticum Vulgare (Wheat) Germ Oil*, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Lead Extract*, Vitis vinifera (Grape) Seed Oil*, Hippophae Rhamnoides (Seabuckthorn) Fruit Extract*, Hypericum Perforatum (St.John’s Wort) Flower Oil*, Daucus Carota Sativa (Carrot) Seed Oil*, Tocopherol (Vitamin E), Linalool**, Geranoil**, Citronellol**, Eugenol**

*Certified organic ingredients

**Naturally occurring in essential oils

Each of these ingredients has specific benefits, targeted at nourishing, deep hydration and improving skin's overall tone and texture. The key star ingredient, the organic steam-distilled rose flower oil, is rich in fatty acids and essential vitamins, and is great for cell oxygenation and renewal. Borage seed oil has one of the highest amounts of linolenic acid of all seed oils, and works well at smoothing and improving skin's texture. Sea buckthorn– an ingredient featured in many cult, green beauty products – is deeply nourishing and beneficial to sun-damaged and acne-prone skin. The list goes on with apricot, almond, argan, jojoba, lavender, rosemary..., all adding to the nutrient-packed formulation. All these ingredients combine beautifully for a truly luxurious, effective product with an exquisite, deep floral scent. That scent though - I find it absolutely addictive!

In terms of texture, it is a light- to medium-consistency oil that spreads beautifully and absorbs fast, and can be used morning and night. At night, I use it alone or under a heavier treatment (if I’m applying one) and in the morning – I mix a drop or two with my moisturizer or apply it under foundation. I make it a point to take my time and massage the serum for 1-2 minutes, inhaling the uplifting scent.  I’ve been using this for over three months and I’ve first noticed a difference in my skin tone, texture and overall hydration within 2-3 weeks. It has helped with firming, evening out the skin tone and improving my overall skin texture, while giving my face a natural, healthy glow.

In addition to the results I'm seeing, I always look forward to using this serum daily because of the all-around sensory experience it provides. From seeing the beautiful, warm amber color, then breathing in the deep, floral scent to massaging the luxurious, silky oil into my skin, the Rose Otto Nourishing Face Serum has turned my beauty routine into a mini aroma-therapeutic ritual. It is now one of my all-time must-have rose-infused products that I will use year-round. It comes in a 20 ml / 0.69 fl oz dark violet glass bottle and a little goes a long way – you need 2-3 drops for the entire face and neck. At $55, I find the Rose Otto Nourishing Face Serum Bio Damascena at par with similar type products, and I find Alteya's control from harvesting of key ingredients to production a true differentiator.

The other product I've discovered is Alteya's Instant Detox Face Mask Rose Jasminium - it has a luxurious texture featuring pink clay, hyaluronic acid and a proprietary Rose Jasmimium complex to detoxify, enhance skin’s tone and help with fine lines. Here's the full list of ingredients:

Pink clay, Distilled Thermal Water, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice*, Punica Granatum Juice Powder*, Glyceryl Caprylate, Glyceryl Undecenylate, Glycerin, Sea Water, Laminaria Digitata Extract, Sodium Caragreenan, Sea Salt, Phenethyl Alcohol, Rosa Damascena (Rose) Flower Oil*, Rosa Damascena (Rose) Flower Extract*, Jasminium Grandiflorum (Jasmine) Flower Extract, Xanthan Gum, Linalool**, Citronellol**, Eugenol**

*Certified organic ingredients

**Naturally occurring in essential oils

The mask is designed for all skin types and recommended to use twice a week to purify, absorb toxins and lift excess oil from the pores, while offering gentle exfoliation and a boost of hydration. I’ve used the mask for over a month, 2 to 3 times a week, and each time, it’s left my skin feel super clean, smooth, more supple, hydrated and radiant. I particularly like the feel of the texture – it’s smooth and easily spreadable – and the gentle, light exfoliation it provides – you can adjust and exfoliate more or less, as you wash it off. The earthy scent with a light floral note (the rose and jasmine scents are not immediately recognizable but contribute to the floral notes) is clean, with a certain depth to it, which adds to the luxurious, relaxing experience. I’ve never been big on masks (always found them a bit too messy for my taste), but the Instant Detox Face Mask changed my sentiments and I’m now consciously seeking to carve out more ‘mask time’! At $29 for 100 ml / 3.4 fl oz and judging by how much I use on a weekly basis,  I find the Instant Detox Face Mask a great value; it should last for 3-4 months.

So, if you are looking to add a nourishing face serum or detox mask to your ingredient-conscious, rose-infused beauty collection, I highly recommend giving Alteya Organics' products a try - don't be surprised if they quickly become a must-have.
