Discovering: Rosa Pretiosa by Natural Cosmetic

by Mariana N, June 2, 2018

Natural Cosmetic is a family-owned European indie beauty brand, based in Bulgaria and specialized in the creation of ingredient-conscious skincare with high-quality essential and vegetable oils. The Rosa Pretiosa line features a complete range of skincare products made with organic Bulgarian rose essential oil and rose water, plus other bio-active plant oils. The rose essential oil has been distilled following time-honored traditions, in a way that preserves its antioxidant and regenerative properties, plus its rich nutrients. While the products are suitable for all skin types, the line has been specifically formulated to address the needs of sensitive and delicate skin. The products are formulated without: silicone, parabens, GMOs, SLS, SLES, derivatives and other petrol substances.

All of the Rosa Pretiosa products I’ve tried have quickly become regulars in my skincare routine. To me – they offer the complete package. They are clean and rose-infused and they are effective, allowing me to see results after regular daily use.  Also, they have the most beautiful light rose scent and lovely textures, creating a luxurious sensory experience every time I use them. Finally, I do appreciate the attention to detail and the modern, fresh aesthetic of the beautiful packaging.

Two of the products – the Dry Rose Oil ($31 / 30 ml) and the Natural Contour Eye Cream ($23 / 20 ml) have been featured in our Winter ’18 Nurture Box, and they have become loved by many of our customers. While we’ve already reviewed them as part of the box reveal, I’ll briefly discuss why and how these are great for year-round use. In addition, we’ll review three other Rosa Pretiosa products that I absolutely love and use daily:

  • The Rejuvenating Serum with Organic Rose Water, $25 / 30 ml
  • The Natural Hand Cream with Bulgarian Rose Oil, $14 / 75 ml
  • The Organic Rose Water, $12 / 100 ml

Starting with the Dry Rose Oil and the Natural Contour Eye Cream:

Rosa Pretiosa Dry Rose Oil

This is one of the best multi-functional oils I have ever tried for my sensitive / combination skin. A luxurious texture, it sinks right in, creating the perfect canvas for applying foundation or makeup. In the winter months, I’ll use this evenings and mornings. In the warmer months, I will mix a few drops directly with my foundation and apply it that way. It creates a more dewy, fresh look and it helps my foundation last longer. The other way in which I love to use the Dry Rose Oil, especially when I travel and look for fewer products to bring with me, is as a hair oil. I put just a drop on my hands and then run it through the ends of my hair - it works beautifully to smooth and fight frizz. Since my hair is straight and on the thinner side, I avoid applying it near the roots.

Rosa Pretiosa Natural Contour Eye Cream

This, too, was featured in our Winter box and it is an amazing, rich eye cream for that season. I, however, find it non-greasy and light enough to use year-round, just adjusting the number of times and amount I use. I love the smooth texture and the scent, plus the fact it applies beautifully and makes the delicate under-eye skin feel hydrated for hours.

Now, onto to the other three Rosa Pretiosa products:

Rosa Pretiosa Natural Rejuvenating Serum with Organic Rose Water

This is one of the top five product discoveries for me this year and a first of its kind I have used (in terms of the specific ingredients). It has the typical serum texture – a light, thin fluid that applies easy. Unlike the other Rosa Pretiosa products, it has a very light scent, it feels almost unscented. Initially, I didn’t think much of the fluid formula, however after using it for three months (mostly in the evening), I am so pleased with the feel and results. The distinguishing difference with this one is that – because of its specific formula – it is intensely hydrating and soothing, while providing an immediate micro lifting, toning effect to the skin.

The ingredients: This is a product with just a few ingredients – the two major ones being organic rose water and a plant-derived patented ingredient, based on Sorghum bicolor stalk juice. Take a look:

Rosa Damascena Flower Water*, Sodium Polystyrene Sulfonate Sorghum Bicolor Stalk Juice, Acacia Senegal Gum Xanthan Gum, Phenethyl Alcohol (*Organic)

The high concentration of organic rose water in this serum is unique as it provides a potent dose of hydration, acting anti-inflammatory and soothing. The skin is left soft and supple. It is excellent for sensitive and acne-prone skin. The Sorghum bicolor stalk juice-based ingredient (called Dynalift™ and manufactured by the French Sederma) forms a thin film on the skin for an immediate tightening effect. The Sorghum bicolor stalk juice is rich in polyosides and sugars that contribute to the skin tightening effect when the ingredient dries on the skin. This is a first time I’ve used this ingredient and I like it. To clarify – it’s a very mild tightening feel, nothing compared to a clay mask, for instance.

Application / use: You apply the serum with light massaging movements from the center of the face outward and very carefully tap around the eyes. Then, you need calm your face  / not mimic too much for the next 5 minutes. You feel the toning immediately, plus your skin starts to look more radiant. After another 5-10 minutes, you can apply makeup or foundation, the serum works great as a base. While I’ve used the serum in the morning, my preference has been to use it in the evening when I take more time for a proper skincare routine and don’t feel rushed.

Results: Both hydration, and fine line control and prevention are important to me, and I find this serum delivers on these concerns, making my skin more toned and radiant, while the fine lines appear less visible. The fact I can layer it with other products is a bonus.  Finally, since I LOVE multi-tasking products, I love that I can use this as a firming mask (which I do sometimes) - simply applying twice the amount and leaving it in.

Organic Bulgarian Rose Water

I’ve talked a lot about the uses and benefits of pure steam-distilled rose flower water, and I’ve tried many brands, as this is a must-have product I use daily, multiple times. I absolutely love the Rose Pretiosa rose flower water. It’s pure and fragrant, made from organic steam-distilled fresh Rosa Damascena petals, grown in Bulgaria’s Rose Valley. The power of the spray is just right – not too strong and not too weak – that is important to me, as I prefer to spray directly on my skin. I use it as a toner after cleansing, to refresh my face, to mix with clay masks, as a hair refresher and light perfume. Last but not least, I appreciate the glass bottle and the generous size. Pure rose water is a must-have year-round, and even more so in spring and summer.

Natural Hand Cream with Bulgarian Rose Oil

Last but not least is the Natural Hand Cream with Bulgarian Rose Oil. First off, I so love that gorgeous coral-pink color of the tube. Second, while a hand cream might be a somewhat unexciting product for some, it’s such a necessity for me – especially in the colder and transitional months – that finding a high-quality, clean one is very high on my list. I have tried many and this one is a winner – the skin on my hands used to be always super dry but that changed after I started using it daily. It’s the perfect consistency and texture – not too thick and not too watery, it’s silky and applies easily, hydrating the skin in depth. My hands actually feel hydrated and soft for hours, and the skin is visibly smoother. Take a look at the ingredients:

Aqua, Octyldodecyl Olivate, Arahidyl Alcohol Behenyl Alcohol Arahidyl Glucoside, Cetearyl Alcohol Cetearyl Glucoside, Glycerin, Butyrospermum Parkii Butter*, Olea Europaea Fluit Oil*, Sweet Almond Oil*, Xylitylglucoside Anhydroxykitol Xylitol, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice Powder, Phenoxyethanol, Tocopherol*, Rosa Damascena Flower Oil (*Organic)

The formula is rich in oils and moisturizing ingredients, striking the perfect balance of nourishing and rich, without being greasy. In addition to the rose oil, it has shea, sweet almond oil, olive oil and aloe vera extract. The scent, as with all of the Rosa Pretiosa creams is such a treat – a light true rose scent, no artificial fragrances here. It lasts a long time, too.

Finally, in addition to creating beautiful, high-quality, organic clean rose beauty, the team at Natural Cosmetic is some of the most professional and nicest we have had the pleasure to work with. Just one more reason to support this amazing indie beauty brand! Excited to have them as a partner and the Rosa Pretiosa line in our Shop
